We were up early (partially due to Buster getting out and barking at 5am) and had pancakes, scrambled eggs and fruit for breakfast. Everyone was happy.
We split into 3 groups and went to different churches for morning service. I went with the Yukon team to the big Rose of Sharon church in León near a market. It’s an established church with awesome praise band and dancers. It’s usually so hot in there that it’s like a sauna. But they have put some fans up and it was bearable. The team still thought it was very hot, but they haven’t experienced what it was like before. They enjoyed the music and the service. It was looooonnnnng. About 1 hour of standing singing and clapping and dancing to the praise music. Then Holly gave her testimony and Nate gave a good message. The congregation really liked his message and there was a lot of applauding. Very good.
We got back to the Mission House and had grilled chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes and slaw for lunch. Everyone enjoyed that, too.
We had training time and it was fun and informative. There was a baptism scheduled at 1:30, but the church had to cancel it for some reason. So after the training time, we had a surprise party for Abby Bolander, who turned 16 today. Her dad had brought down 4 cake mixes with icing, candles and special plates. I had picked up a piñata and filled it. We had a nice celebration.
Then part of the overall group swam a little bit and the rest of us worked on various projects. We got all 19 tubs unpacked, sorted and repacked. The Yukon tream worked on getting all the prizes for the Fiestas for the week put together. We have lots of candy for the week. We’re all set!
I was really tired and very soaking wet from working in the hot conference room. I wished I could have had a shower and a nap, but had to settle for freshening up and changing for church.
We split into 3 groups again and I went with Nate’s team again tonight. We went to Cristo Viene church, which is where Saturnino and Aracelys, two of our workers go to church. It’s down the road from our old team house, so we drove by for Nate’s team to see where we used to stay.
We had a good time at the church. LOTS of music. The total service was over 2 hours long. Then it was 30 minutes back to the team house for dinner. We had tuna salad and chicken salad. It was yummy.
I helped Mary in the kitchen and then chatted with various people. It’s been a good day and I’m tired. I need to get up early and be ready to leave by 7:30am to help with the Feeding Center at Las Quimeras this week. I think I’ll sleep well. God is good
