Tuesday, August 7, 2012

I started the morning early on the computer. I got a lot done before Mary, Mayela and I went to San Jacinto and La Quimera Feeding Centers.

While at San Jacinto, Mary gave out some really cute ‘pillowcase’ dresses that some ladies from her church made. She also gave away to the boys some hats that they made. It was fun to see how lovely the girls looked and felt in the new dresses.

Back at the team house, we had lunch and then I worked on updating the Feeding Center files with the info that Mayela had collected in the last days.

There will be training this Saturday for the volunteer cooks from all of the Feeding Centers. Mayela, Lesly, Mary and myself will be going to watch the training and to give the volunteers some things from the ministry (rice, beans, oil, etc). Mary, Sherry, Lesly and Mayela worked in the afternoon to bag up all the things for the 12 workers. It will be a fun day on Saturday!

There was a quick meeting with Pastor Pedro and Marvin from Noah’s Ark Feeding Center. It was an interesting meeting…

I worked on gathering pictures for the grant proposal concerning the Sewing Ministry.

I was supposed to go to Kelly and Jeremy’s house for dinner, but we cancelled due to Jeremy’s health. I retired to my room early to study and watch videos.

I’ve been trying to really lean ‘into’ God and not just lean ‘on’ Him. I know that a lot of my struggles come from not being connected to Him in a strong enough manner. A lesson in Bible Study lately was on Abiding in Christ. It was a good lesson and I’m trying to take it to heart. We can always draw closer to Him. And it needs to be a daily goal. I’m glad that He is there waiting.

Sunday, August 5, 2012 - Monday, August 6, 2012

A quiet morning. I went to Todopoderoso church, which reminds me of my sweet church Cuerpo Vivo in Rogers.

After church, I ran to La Unión grocery store really quick for a few items. I had lunch at Tip Top Chicken. I ate the grilled chicken breast and tortilla. I also ordered a salad with grilled chicken as take out for dinner.

Back at the team house I studied some Spanish and read some on the book that I’m currently enjoying. It was a very quiet afternoon.

Back to Todopoderoso church in the evening. I also spent a quiet evening on the computer and then watching some videos.

A true resting in God kind of a day. I loved it!!

Just one more week here in Nica. It seems really weird to think about it. I’m thankful that God allows me to live in the moment!

Jeremy and his family stopped by first thing looking for Mike and German, who weren’t here at that moment. Jeremy had some health problems over the weekend and needs to take a week of complete rest, as per his doctor. His heart is beating erratically. I hope he gets a great week of rest and recuperation and that the doctors can find out what is wrong and fix it.

I did some communication stuff on the computer and then worked on the agenda for the Women’s Ministry trip in October.

After lunch, I went to get my haircut. Then I stopped for ice cream and did a little bit of souvenir shopping downtown. It’s hard to shop for souvenirs lately. Maybe because I feel like I live here and it’s not a novelty to me. I need to get my head around what other people would like to have.

It was a quiet night of study, reading and watching videos.

Saturday, August 4, 2012

I didn’t sleep hardly at all last night. I think it was from about 11pm to 12:30am. Then I was up the rest of the night. I was trying to read myself back to sleep, but my mind was in a turmoil and I wasn’t even paying attention to the book. I had a very hard night of spiritual warfare going on. I don’t like those nights.

I got up finally and read my Bible and piddled around in my room a little bit. Then I did another couple loads of laundry. I started working on the memory verse cards that I’m making for the ladies at the La Quimera Bible Study. They are turning out pretty nice. I printed them out about 3”x5” and then laminated them. After I cut them apart, I punched a hole in the top and put them on a split ring (like a key ring) so that they can be flipped over and used many times. I hope that the ladies like them. It took a long time to laminate them, but I put a movie in my computer and watched it while working.

The Hulsey’s and Mary went to the soccer game between La Quimera and San Jacinto (2 of our church plants). We have provided the soccer uniforms for both teams. Mary is partial to the San Jacinto team. They had a good time watching the game, but came back before it ended. Mary said her team was ahead when she left.

We had lunch (taco salad) and then everyone did their own thing. Mike was on the computer and then took a nap in one of the hammacks, because he wasn’t feeling well. Sherry got some time in the pool. Buster (the dog) swam some laps in the pool. He is so funny. I got some video of him swimming. Mary was resting in her room. Manuel wanted to play so while I working on the memory verse cards, he pretended like I was a drive up bank and a fast food drive up window. I gave him some of the larger clear pieces of laminate that were left over. He wrote a $ and a number on each one. He was truly ‘making money’ as he pretended to be Sherry’s husband.

I got a nice 2 hour nap. I was needing it after being awake all night. It was very hot, but I had 2 small fans blowing on me. I woke up all sweaty, but rested.

I worked in my room on sorting some personal paperwork and getting documents in order to take to the states with me. I watched a movie in my computer while doing that, too.

I called my 2 sisters and then fixed some pasta for dinner. I’ve been on facebook a little bit and now I’m ready to go to bed and read a while. I think I’ll sleep pretty well tonight. I’ve renounced satan’s hold on my mind by reminding him of how big my God is! Now, if I can just keep reminding myself of that, I will be in pretty good shape!

Time for bed and to rest in God’s peace.

I woke up early and spent some time ready my Bible at random. I like doing that sometimes just to see what God has tucked away for me in unplanned places.

I got a lot of computer work done in the morning, as well as doing a couple loads of laundry. I’m feeling the need to get a lot of loose ends tied up in the next week since I’ll be leaving for 2 months in the states on the 13th. I need to take some stuff with me to work on from there, as well as get stuff in good shape here to leave for others to follow along.

Being in Nica so much now, it really does feel like a ‘vacation’ trip to the states to see family and friends, take care of personal business and doctor visits, etc. I’m looking forward to seeing a lot of people in these 2 months. I’ll be traveling from AR to IN and to NYC then back to IN and back to AR before returning to Nica on Oct 16. Gonna be a blast!

Anyway, Mayela and I visited the Monte Horeb Feeding Center today and on the way, we stopped at the printer/copy place so that I could get some documents copied for Bible Study. It felt good to get it taken care of. We also stopped at a store so that she could a gift for her mom. The visit to the Feeding Center was nice. It’s great to see and recognize the kids. Wendy came running and gave me a big hug. She is such a sweetie! I got to get a picture of her with me. She has a cute haircut. She’s just adorable.

We got back to the team house and had lunch. Then Mayela blessed me with a massage. She is very good at it and I enjoyed it very much. Buster the dog was in the room with us and sprawled out on the floor to relax. Mayela had to keep stepping over him. At the end of my massage, Mayela covers my back and has me lay there for 5 minutes or so to keep the relaxed feeling. She leaves the room. Well, the lock on my door can be so cantankerous sometimes. She kept trying to get the key to turn and it was stuck. She was trying to be quiet and not disturb me. Finally, she gave up and said ‘sorry’ and set on the edge of the bed in silence. It was funny.

In the afternoon, Mary and Charlie went with Jorge and Manuel to the movies. Sherry and Mike went home for a while. Everyone else was out working. Lesly, Mayela, Jaasiel and I were the only ones at the team house. They decided to go swimming. They don’t wear bathing suits, especially skimpy ones, here in Nica. They usually swim (if they swim) in shorts and a cami or tank top. We scrounged around for shorts and shirts for them to wear in the pool. They kept asking me to join them, so I relented and did. I didn’t want to wear my bathing suit (which is very modest, by the way) when they were wearing shorts and tanks, so I found some shorts and a tank for me to wear. We had fun in the water and laughed a lot. It was a great afternoon.

There was a meeting with a lawyer from Managua about the requirements of our new status of NGO here in Nica. I couldn’t hear very well at the big table, and the info was mostly for Mike and Sherry and part of the Nica staff, so I went back to my little worktable and got back on my computer. I guess there is a lot of legal mumbo jumbo to go along with the status. Especially being in a third-world country. I’m kind of glad that I don’t have to worry about it. I’ll just pray for those who do have to deal with the paperwork and such.

I ordered a few more books off of Amazon.com for my Kindle. I’ve found a mystery writer that I like pretty well and I can get most of his books pretty cheap. That’s the best kind!

Mary and Charlie and I went to a Mexican restaurant and had a delicious meal. I really enjoyed it. I know I’ll be going back there a lot.

We got back to the team house and said goodbye to Charlie, who was leaving at 4am for the airport. He has been in Nica for 9 weeks. It was a very busy time and it went by quickly, but I know he was missing his family very much.

Hard to believe it’s August already. Wow!

Thursday, August 2, 2012

Slept in till 7am this morning. It sure felt good! But I had a guilty conscience for not walking all week!

Mike and Sherry got back from their vacation yesterday and came to work this morning. It was a very busy morning for all of us with lots to catch up on. I didn’t have to drive anywhere today, so I got tons of work done on the computer! Yeah!

There were lots of discussions, planning, emailing, file inputting, more discussions and people in and out all day. It was grand to see how busy God has us here. That means that things are getting done for the Kingdom!!!

Mary, Jeremy and Lesly went to pick up the soccer uniforms for the team at San Jacinto and then on to a church service there. They had a good time. I’m looking forward to seeing Mary’s pictures. Now the teams at La Quimera church and San Jacinto church both have uniforms and can play with pride. They sometimes play each other, so it might be interesting if we are at a game and don’t know which team to root for!

Sherry and I talked today about our GIC (mission conference) displays, the ministries that I’m involved with here, my travel dates, and so on. It was nice to get a chance to sit and quietly talk.

I also got the chance to talk with Mike for more than 5 minutes at a time. I caught him up to date on some of the stuff that I’m working on and also asked a lot of questions. I think by the time he talked to all of us, his head was swimming. Maybe he is ready to go back on a little vacation!

I’m going to retire to my room and study a little bit, watch a video and then go to bed early. That’s the plan anyway… It’s been a very satisfying day and I am blessed to serve my Lord.

Wednesday, August 1, 2012

No walk this morning. Still feeling kind of yucky in the mornings. But did go to breakfast with Charlie and Mary at a little restaurant that Mike likes to go to. I had the waffles and they were good! Charlie had breakfast burritos and Mary had an ‘american’ breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon, home fries and toast. It was all pretty good.

I got back to the team house and did some computer work on the Feeding Centers. And I caught up with inputting some email addresses into distribution lists. Then I ate a little bit of lunch and rested in my room for a while. I wasn’t feeling good at all, but couldn’t tell why. I closed the window and door and turned on the A/C and napped a little bit. I felt a little better when I got up to get ready for Bible Study.

Estefanie got here and we took off to La Quimera for Bible Study with the ladies. It was another good class. I love that the ladies want to discuss the scripture and have lots of feedback. I passed out some Bibles that I had bought for the new ladies. I’m so thankful that God blessed me with the funds to purchase those right now.

The ladies from Bible Study said I cannot leave Nica. They are going to lock me in the church next week and not let me leave. I told them that I eat a lot of food and they will have to feed me. They were taking that into consideration!

I took Estefanie home and then went to Jeremy and Kelly’s house to get them and take them to dinner at Al Carbón. I love that place! They really liked it, too. We had so much fun talking and laughing. Kelly only speaks Spanish so I gave my Spanish skills a huge workout. If I couldn’t understand I could ask Jeremy to translate, but they both gave me the chance to work things out on my own. The food was delicious and the weather great. The restaurant is open to the outside in the middle and there is a fountain in the middle of some flowers. Really nice. I just loved it!

On the way to the restaurant, we got caught in a demonstration near the park that is being remodeled. This was by a group of young protesters who have issues with the trees being cut down and the other improvements that are being made. They were blocking the street and holding posters. There was a guy on stilts and in some kind of costume. One guys read a long statement while holding a microphone. It was not all that much fun for me and I was glad that it was over. I asked Jeremy what they were saying and he said they were unhappy that the trees were getting cut down. I said I wasn’t too thrilled with them blocking the street either, but I wasn’t making any speeches. Sheesh! But we made it to the restaurant and had a great time, anyway.

After I took Jeremy and Kelly home, I came home to the team house and showered and got ready for bed. Then I caught up on some facebook stuff watched a video. It was a great day!

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

The last day of July. Where has the time gone? Another realization that we do not control our days or hours or minutes. God has a plan for every second and we miss so much by trying to plan and execute all of our own plans. I pray that I can really give back to Him each second of my life for Him to use me as HE has designed.

I got a lot of work done on the computer. Recapping of info, completing files on the Feeding Center kids, communication, planning, etc. I can feel the need to complete things as my days here in Nica are coming to a close these next 2 weeks. I’m preparing work that can be done from the states while I’m on my ‘vacation’ for 2 months. I also want to have things in order here for the ministries that I work with to continue (to a certain extent) while I’m absent. By the time I tie up loose ends and take a deep breath, I’ll probably already be on the plane. ☺

I took Mary, Mayela, Lesly and Jaasiel to lunch at Al Carbón. It’s one of my favorite restaurants and one that they probably would not go to themselves. I like being able to treat them.

Mary taught her last sewing class for the summer today. She has had a lot of laughs with that group of women.

I spent a lot of time on the computer today, probably more than I would if I had a 8-5 job. It’s hard sometimes to turn off the work mode when you’re in the field. There is so much to do and you just stay focused on getting it done. I have to try to keep a balance of things in my busy little life.

I’m thankful to have videos to watch on my computer and books to read on my Kindle. That helps to round out my choices for entertainment. I’ve found myself missing TV this week only because the Olympics are on. I enjoy watching them. You cannot stream live feed from the US to Nica, so I gave up on websites that do that. It’s okay, though.

I’m so thankful for all that God allows me to do here and that He has made me so comfortable living in Nica. I’m humbled that He would allow me to work for Him in ministry anywhere. I’m very thankful for all my blessings and I’m thankful that He prepares my heart to be content with what He provides. That’s key. He is faithful!
