Wednesday again. It's been a good day. And a good week since my last post.

I did go last Thursday morning for my blood test. While in Springdale, I thought I might stop by to visit Sarah just for a minute. I was trying to decide if I would be interrupting Sarah's care or therapy if I stopped. I didn't want to mess anything up, but I didn't want to miss a chance to see her while in the area. I was waffling about whether to stop or not just as I was coming to the street. The light turned red and I pulled into the turning lane. I decided that if she was busy with breakfast or therapy or something that at least I could pray for her to have a good day. As I was walking down the hallway, I heard her crying out. She was having a really bad morning and needed some love. I got an aide to come to her room to take care of her and I got to pray with her to help calm her down. I wish I could do more for her, but prayer is a powerful thing. I only got to stay a few minutes, but I knew that it was God nudging me to go by there. I was glad that I did. I wish I could do more.

I'm always praying that God will show me Him at work around me and how I can be involved. So many times I overlook the signs. I'm praying more now that He will open my eyes to be aware of those signs.

I got my haircut, which is a joy for me. It's my one splurge on myself. I love wearing it short, so it needs to be trimmed often. Carolyn does a good job on it. She says that she is getting more brave in cutting it short like I want. She's a doll.

Thursday afternoon I took Jet for a walk and then cleaned house. Deanna came home in the pouring rain about 9pm. She had been gone for over 4 weeks. It was so good to see her! I and the dog and cat had been missing her! We chatted a little before bedtime. Jet moved back in to her bedroom, but of course, he took his new bed pillow with him!

Friday I worked at the Food Pantry and enjoyed spending time with the other volunteer, Doris. Then I came home and packed a bag and food for the weekend with Miss Daisy. I was coming down with a cold (which I thought was just allergies) and the weather was chilly and rainy, so I was ready to get settled inside and get cozy for the weekend.

Miss Daisy was a sweet blessing. I really enjoyed spending time with her. She had funny stories and we discussed life, nyc, raising her kids, and just about any topic that came up. I worked on my Bible study and tried to read a book, but kept falling asleep for cold-induced naps. It was a good weekend, even though I was sick. I want to go by and visit with Miss Daisy often.

Sunday night I got to share with the congregation about the ministry opportunities going on now and coming up soon for our church and community. I always love telling people about what God is up to. And He has so much for us to be involved in. He wants us to join in. There are blessings to be shared and to be received. It's all right there for us to see if we just slow down and look. He is faithful and patient and generous. He is working ALL AROUND US and we need to be involved. It's HIS plan. and our privilege.

Monday's Spanish class was great, as usual. I'm so hungry for it! I've jumped in with both feet and will try to speak only Spanish with Oliver and Jaime and they can correct me and teach me in everyday conversations. I'm having a blast with it and enjoying it so much. God is so good. I pray that He opens my mind and understanding so that it all sticks and makes sense and I can use it to share Him with others. I can't wait to be more helpful at the Food Pantry and Medical Clinic. I can't wait for my next mission trip to a Spanish speaking country. Please pray for me as I continue my language classes.

Bible study was good this week. We are studying Covenant. It is so special. I had made a covenant with God last December to continue to follow Him as a full-time missionary, no matter how or where or what the physical/material circumstances. Learning more about how God created covenant makes it even more special to me.

I'm so thankful that He loves me and takes care of me and knows what is best for me and has expectations for me and directs me and forgives me. oh, how I love Him.

Wednesday, October 7, 2009

Wednesday evening. It's been a really good and full day. I'm so thankful that God has allowed me to feel physically strong enough to have these days.

Sunday, I got to spend some time with my friend Jana. We sat together during the worship service and then got to spend a little time chatting afterward. She's a special lady and I'm so happy for the way God has blessed her life and the work He's leading her to do. For lunch I was treated by Nate and Whitney. It was yummy and visiting was great. I then went down to visit my friend Sarah. She is making progress on rehab and is getting stronger each day. She's ready to get back home. God is working miracles in her life. I know it's hard sometimes, but God has the strength to get us through anything. Please keep her in your prayers for healing and strength.

Spanish class on Monday was great. Oliver is such a good teacher. I'm enjoying it and so hungry to learn all I can as fast as I can. After class, I went by the Food Pantry and also did a little bit of work at the church. I spent some time in the afternoon making some yummy homemade soup and cornbread. Then Jet and I took another brisk walk. I wonder if Jet will turn me down when the weather gets cold. We'll see.

Tuesday's Bible study was really good. The worship time before we split up into classes was awesome. Mary Claire performed an interpretation of a special song and it was so moving there were a lot of tears in the room. I'm so thankful that God has allowed us so many senses to experience Him by. I shared some of the soup with a few friends at church. While there, I got a phone call to see if I was available to sit with 3 of the Janes' kids. I was very happy to do so. I love hanging out at their house. The kids are fun.

I had an appointment with Dr. Bob Tuesday afternoon. We discussed options and test results and stuff like that. It's good to rule things out, but frustrating to not prove what is actually wrong. One more blood test and then maybe the surgeon will decide to take out my gallbladder. I'm ready to feel better. I do have to say how thankful I am that God has allowed me to feel better and able to function these days. The pain is usually mild and the nausea is light enough that ginger capsules help. Flair ups are not fun and I don't enjoy being awakened in the night with pain, but if I'm extra careful with what I eat it's not too bad. I do want to get 'fixed' so that I don't have to worry about when the flair ups will hit and I can make plans. God knows what I need and when. I pray He will let it all happen soon.

After my appointment, I stopped in to see Sarah. She's doing better. She is determined to stand and walk soon so that she can go home. She and I are going shopping when she's able. She's ready to do normal things again.

Today I got to speak to the Social Workers who work with the counselors in the school system. I shared with them about the different ministries we have at FBCR and what we have coming up for fall and winter. They are very excited to work closely with us to meet needs for the families in the schools. I'm excited about getting necessary info so that we can more effectively minister to the families and share Jesus with them.

Paul O and I met today to discuss the plans for this year's Thanksgiving meals. We're shooting for 2400 meals this year. The volunteers and team leaders are great and it's a wonderful ministry to the community. I've missed this project while I was in nyc. I got to work in ministries there for Thanksgiving, but it's nice to be back here this year.

This afternoon I went by to meet a new friend, Miss Daisy, who I will be staying with over the weekend. I can't wait to spend time with her and hear some of her stories. It's one of my favorite parts of 'Granny-sitting'. She's a sweetheart and I'm looking forward to the weekend.

Tonight I got to share with the 3rd-5th grade AWANA kids about Mission Rogers. This year, the AWANA missions donations will go to meeting the needs of those ministered to through the Mission Rogers projects. It was interesting to see the differences between each grade. The kids agreed to pray about the projects and to tell people about the ministries and invite kids at school to some of the events and to let people know about the help that is available. It was a fun night.

I did get the chance to walk Jet between visiting Miss Daisy and going to AWANA. It was a very quick walk and we both felt invigorated when done. It's supposed to rain a lot the next 2 days, so we probably won't get to walk again until I get back on Sunday afternoon. We sure are enjoying the walks. I think I noticed Jet getting a little 'buff'. I may have to watch out for female doggies following us around on these walks in the future!

Tomorrow morning I'll run down to get my bloodtest done and then I get a haircut. I love haircut days! I have plenty of computer work to do and the critters and I will get the place ready for Deanna's return tomorrow night. We sure miss her!!

For now, it's time for bed. Another blessed day living in God's love.

Saturday, Oct 3, 2009

What a nice Saturday! Woke up and had some hot tea during my quiet time. After writing in my journal, I was sitting on the sofa in sweet peace and I was visited by LucyAlice, who is not a lap-kitty, but who decided to take up residence on my lap. I snapped her picture with my phone and sent it to Deanna. I know she misses the critters and they miss her. I can't wait for her to get back Thursday!

Anyway, I had a leisurely breakfast of my yummy 'super oatmeal' (which I haven't missed a day of since last November) and a pampering shower. Full of energy, I headed out the door for some errands. A quick stop by the library (where I got to say hi to my friend Monica), I dropped off my application for membership at the Wellness Center (thank you Dean and Shirley for the gift!), then to a few stores for specific items on my list. I had $30 worth of savings cards for Lifeway Christian Bookstore that had to be used by today, so I had a lovely time perusing the aisles there. I found some good bargains and saved money! Sweet! I thought about running some more errands, but was starting to feel tired, so I ran back home mid-afternoon to do some laundry and read one of my new books.

Jet piled up on the floor next to the sofa I was lying on to read. We both fell fast asleep for a couple of hours. We woke up and decided a walk was in order. It was a little chilly, since the sun was hidden behind clouds, but it was a nice brisk walk, which we both needed.

I ask God each morning to use me in whatever way He has planned. It really is my heart's desire to be a tool for Him. But I know that as I go throughout my day, I get caught up in the mechanics of moving from one thing to another and don't always stay as attentive to the small ways in which He speaks to me. One thing that He has impressed upon me is that sometimes He gives me small pieces at a time. It's kind of like a treasure hunt, and I need to pay attention so I won't miss anything. Often when someone asks me if I know of someone who... (need a particular item, help of some kind, an opportunity, etc), and I can't think of a recipient right off the top of my head, I know that God will provide the other half of the situation in some way. I always get excited when I don't know of the recipient, because I know He is going to bring someone across my path soon. I love to see Him at work.

He did these kinds things lately. Someone in Las Vegas asked his friend in San Francisco if she knew of any churches in Vegas. The San Francisco friend is a Facebook friend of mine through her sister-in-law who I met in nyc. I let her know about Jake and Elaine Bridges and Northstar church in Vegas. So, God brought the guy in Las Vegas info about a possible church home via San Francisco-nyc-Rogers AR-Las Vegas. God had put those relationships in order to accomplish that task. He could have done it all without us, but it's another reminder of how He is everywhere and we are all His.

Today I was in a store and noticed someone in the next checkout line that looked vaguely familiar. Usually, I don't pursue a conversation when I'm not sure (and even sometimes when I am sure). But God has been impressing on me to be bolder and more outgoing so that I won't miss those opportunities that He is placing around me. So I asked the lady if she was Trudi (the name that kept coming to mind). It turns out she was. I didn't know if she would remember me at all, but after we talked about how we had met about 19 years ago, she did. Her husband and I were in the same sign language class at the Rogers Youth Center all those years ago. One of the classes was an outing with spouses or friends. That's how I met Trudi. She told me that little did they know back then her husband, Larry, would eventually lose his hearing. wow. They are Christians and know that God is sovereign. They have been looking for signing classes for their family to take. I was able to share with her about the classes at our church (FBC Rogers) on Wednesday nights and will get them connected to people who can help them out more local information. We were giving God honor and praise for His plans and the 'chance' meeting we had this morning. He is sooo good! (I'm so glad that He didn't let me ignore the nudge to approach Trudi).

This evening, a friend called me to see if our church had ways to help a lady she met who is sleeping at a park. God brought this lady across Angela's path and Angela opened up to a conversation with her. She is a Christian and just needs to get back on her feet. I gave Angela some contact info on some of the agencies and ministries that God has led me to research. God knew that Angela would be meeting this lady and that the info would be needed. All these pieces coming together...

Do you remember a TV show called "The A Team"? The lead guy would always say "I love it when a plan comes together." I used to picture God in Heaven smiling and saying that. But now I imagine Him smiling and saying "I love it when My children are obedient so My plan can come together." Not that He needs us to accomplish His plans. But we grow so much by being involved and honor Him by being obedient.

One of the books I bought today with my savings card is about God putting these opportunities in our lives every single day and how we should be looking for them and responding to them. I'll share more about that book when I get it read.

I pray we are all more aware of what God is doing around us at any given moment. And when you see me, please remind me to be looking!

Friday, Oct 2, 2009

October 2nd is the birthday of the first child of my highschool bestfriend. Kari was born our senior year. It's hard to believe that she is 34 years old today and a mother herself. In highschool, we believed we were so mature and 'enlightened'... We had ideas of how we would be at middle-age, but it wasn't anything like the reality that is now! I suspect it's the same for everyone.

As smart as we think we are at any given age, we are but a silly anecdote in God's wise plan. There is so much in this version of life that man has altered from what God originally intended for us. We make things so complicated as we use our perceived intellect and self-serving vision for the future. God created us to love and worship Him, and love each other by sharing Him.

Sometimes it is soooo cleansing and refreshing to stop, take a step aside from the fast lane and watch the rest of the world scurry by as they seek the meaning in their lives. We think that with striving to be smarter, more technically savvy and applying ourselves, we can help God out by discerning the most appropriate path for ourselves. Aren't we silly to think God needs our advice? Kind of like when we were in highschool thinking that we had our future all figured out.

Even though I accepted Christ as Savior when I was 15, I didn't really allow Him to be my Lord and Master. I thought I was supposed to figure it all out on my own, while living within His forgiveness, mercy and grace. I wish I would have understood better back then that I could really ask Him to show me HIS path for my life.

As I'm studying the Covenant Precept Bible study, I'm learning so much more about how deep and full the relationship He offers each of children is. He's brought me closer and closer to Him through this journey as His redeemed child over the years. Especially these last few years, as I have surrendered my entire life to serving Him anytime, anywhere and in anyway. Learning more about the depth of His promises to me is unbelievable sometimes. It is a love that only someone as big as He is can create.

I think sometimes in looking at His omniscience, we forget just how personal and intimate His relationship with each of us is. Only a God this wonderful can love us on so many levels. His protection and care for us are not just gifts from a loving God. He made the strongest and most serious promise to us in the blood covenant of Jesus Christ. He will never break that covenant, and will always be there for us.

I am so in awe of Him. He is worthy of so much more than I can give in praise and love. I will give Him my all, not because my all is worth anything, but because He deserves all I can give.

I'm so thankful for His Word to study and draw insights from Him. I'm also very thankful for those who share the Word in sermons and Bible study classes and books and songs. Just as there are so many tasty foods to take in nourishment, there are many delicious ways to soak in His Word. He makes the experience of being His child quite yummy!

Wednesday, Sept 30, 2009

Wednesday night after church. It was a really great night at the Crusade at my church (FBC Rogers). Lots of people, great music, perfect message, Razorback drum line, dozens of people getting baptized. God being glorified and His love being shared.

We were wanting to have clothes on hand for people to get baptized tonight right after the message, so I got to make trips to 2 Walmart stores to pick up tshirts, undies and shorts. Thankfully, the shorts were all on clearance since it is the end of summer, but that also meant that there weren't many sizes available. I did have fun with the assignment of picking everything up. On one trip, the shopping cart was stacked taller than me! The cashier asked what all of it was for and I got to share with her about the Crusade and being ready to baptize lots of people. She is a Christian and thought it was pretty cool. Now I need to take what I can back for a refund tomorrow. Crazy, but it was well worth it!

Jet and I took another long walk tonight before church. He was a little tuckered out on the way back. He is as out of shape as I am, so no mercy on either of us! We must keep it up! The weather (and my health) have allowed us to make it out for a walk for the last 5 days. I'm not sure if there are any blades of grass that he hasn't sniffed, but we'll keep up our walks to make sure...

I'm looking forward to helping the 12th grade girls group from our church get ready for the My Closet clothes giveaway this Saturday. I'll get to help prepare the 'boutique' tomorrow and Friday.

My friend Sarah is supposed to move to rehab tomorrow. She's getting a little stronger every day. I hope to get down to see her on Saturday, and at least once a week thereafter. I'm trying to think of little 'happies' to take her, so if you know of some good ideas, let me know!

I'm thankful to be feeling better this week. Not having tests and being able to rest when needed and eat healthy food and take my vitamins and healthy supplements is helping a lot. Of course, the best medicine is prayer! I have an appointment with Dr Bob next Tuesday. I hope he's ready for me! I have lots of questions. Keep praying about what the best course of action is for me.

Elaine had gallbladder surgery today and is feeling better already. I'm so thankful that she found a doctor who would take care of her problem! I'm so glad for her.

I'm looking forward to Deanna to come home next week, too. I sure do miss her. I know the pets do, too. We can't wait!

I've been thinking a lot about the Covenant that God has made with us. It's so much more than just a gift from Him. I just love Him.

Monday, Sept 28, 2009

The last Monday of September. I love fall! Cool, sunny days; chilly nights, fall clothes, new socks! (a personal favorite!) I bought a few little candles this week. Mulled Cider, Cinnamon Vanilla and Hazelnut Creme. I light them all at once. mmmmmm it smells good! I think I'll need to get some cider this week for a little evening sipping...

I'm feeling better now that I'm not doing tests and I'm eating really healthy and on my vitamins and supplements. Jet and I have taken a 30 minute walk each of the last 3 days. I'm hoping we can keep it up every day, weather permitting. We both need the exercise! I'll be signing up at the Wellness Center soon. (I just need to make the time.)

The Ronnie Hill crusade is going great at church (FBC Rogers). I really enjoy hearing him speak. The worship music has been moving. People are accepting Jesus as Savior and getting baptized. It's a good week. All Glory to our sovereign God!!

I attended a Spanish class this morning. It is going to be great. I tend to get hung up on grammar and trying to speak perfectly. That keeps me from engaging in conversation sometimes. I know this class is going to help me have more confidence and open up more easily. We will be studying grammar and vocabulary and such for half of each class and then conversation and real life situations for the other half. I think it's a perfect plan. Oliver is a really gifted teacher. The others in the class are very nice and we all have a heart to bring others to Christ, so it will be a blessed time together.

I had time to visit at the Food Pantry this morning after class. The Lord is really working through that mission. Today we gave food to 11 families. 7 people accepted Christ as Savior. It's a great ministry. Food donations from the church congregation are coming in routinely. And the food is going out just as fast. More volunteers are needed to serve on Monday and Fridays (10am-noon) to talk with people and to help pack the boxes of food. Pray that those whom God has called to be a part of this ministry will heed His call and get involved. It's a blessing for all!

We'll start collecting outerwear items soon to be distributed to families in need. What a blessing to everyone who will feel the warmth of coats and jackets. Only second to the warmth of God's love in our hearts.

I'm looking forward to working on the plans for fall and winter ministries. I'm thankful to feel better so that I can be more productive. I'm very thankful to be able to work from home and to be able to meet with people around town.

I'm very blessed by my Lord to be able to serve Him full time. Thank you to all of you who help to make that possible for me. Your love and prayers and support are priceless.

Praying blessings on you, and praising our Father in all things.

Saturday, Sept 26, 2009

Chillin' on a Saturday night, sippin' some hot green tea and reflecting...

It's been beautiful today. The weather is sunny and warm, but not too hot, just right. Jet and I took a nice little walk this evening. We haven't been walking for a few weeks and it was really nice. I hope we can walk everyday until the winter weather turns nasty. I've also been sitting outside on the patio a little more. I love being outside.

I'm feeling better now that I'm not doing some kind of nasty test every week or so. I didn't realize how much worse I was feeling just from the junk they were putting into my body for the scans. I'm back on my healthy supplements and, of course, healthy food. This has made me feel better, too. Dr O is ruling out one more thing this week and then Dr Bob will take over again. The saga continues, but I'm thankful to be feeling better now than when I was while going through all the tests. A few of the people I have fun into in the last few days have told me how much better I look. I think I look tired and haggard, so I must have REALLY looked BAD before! ha

Thursday, I got to spend some time with the Janes family and hold baby Phillip while he napped. He is so sweet! It was fun to see the kids and visit with Becca. I just love that family!

I got to spend some time at the Food Pantry yesterday. There wasn't much traffic, but it was a good time of sharing between workers. I also got to connect with a friend I hadn't seen in a while.

I spent a little time with my friend Sarah, who is in the hospital very ill recovering from surgery. God worked a huge miracle in her situation and she has a long way to go. It can only happen with God's hand of healing and comfort. I feel so helpless in not knowing what I can do to make her feel better. It's so overwhelming. But it makes me think about just how big God is. Not even this reaches His limits. I pray for extra grace for Sarah and her family. And I pray that God will show me how to be a blessing to them.

The revival starts tomorrow at my church (First Baptist, Rogers) and I'm excited to see the high energy of God working in hundreds of lives for the next few days. Pray that hearts will be open to hear Truth.

I'll be getting busy with the local mission stuff of fall. I'll help out with Thanksgiving meals (I've missed that while gone), a Coat drive, Christmas Blessings (Angel Tree and Food Baskets), etc. It's hard to believe it's time for all these things soon. The year is really flying by.

I'll keep working on my Spanish lessons. I feel a definite calling from God to work on this to be useful here in NW Arkansas, as well as what He has in store for me for the future. My deepest desire is to be useful to Him in whatever way He asks. I want to be prepared. Pray for me to learn, understand and retain the language.

I'm so thankful to all of you prayer partners and supporters who make it possible for me to be able to serve the Lord fulltime as a missionary here as well as away. I pray God's blessings on you.
